** A study of the U.S. Navy compared average and high-performing squadrons. The average units tended to have leaders that fit the military stereotype: Harsh, tough-minded, aloof and domineering.

But leaders of high-performing squadrons were different. They were more expressive, smiled more frequently and were more appreciative of their soldiers.

Encouragement helps people succeed because positive interactions energize and inspire us. You don’t have to be a leader to do it:

1. Recognize someone else’s moment of success. Consider the small moments—a well-written email, a funny joke, a willingness to help someone else, even just enduring in the face of a hard task—that others may not notice.
2. Mention or email what you saw.

Find one encouraging thing to say to someone and say it TODAY!!
